Man comes back from night out in Liverpool to £30 fine

A man came home from a night out in Liverpool to find a £30 fine on his car at his local station's park and ride.

The man, posting on social media, said he parked his car at Moreton train station before heading on a night out to Liverpool only to discover the next day he received a parking ticket.

He said he wasn't aware of the rule and claimed there were no signs at the car park to tell him.

However, Merseyrail shared a photo with the ECHO of a sign which states no overnight parking is allowed.

Posting in a Moreton Facebook group, the man said: "Just to make people aware who don't know, you can't leave your car parked overnight in Moreton train station car park overnight anymore.

"We went to Liverpool for a night out and went to pick the car up the next day and there was a ticket on it.

"There are no signs anywhere inside the car park or the station but as you drive in there is one sign telling you.

"It was blocked from our view on the day we went so we didn't see it."

"We appealed to Merseyrail over it but we had to pay £30."

Merseyrail 's head of communications Greg Suligowski, said; "Overnight parking is not allowed in any of our station car parks.

"This helps to ensure there are spaces available for customers who may need to use them the following day and reduces the potential for overnight antisocial behaviour in station carparks.

"This is a long-standing policy that has been in place for several years and clear signage is in place to let our passengers know this.

"Whilst we can’t comment on any specific case, I would encourage anyone who believes they have been issued with a parking fine unfairly to contact enforcement@merseyrail.org to discuss their case in detail.”
