A man scaled the National Christmas Tree outside the White House Friday night.
The unidentified climber is believed to be suffering "emotional distress," said National Park Service Sgt. Eduardo Delgado.
Two negotiators have been trying to talk him into coming down after he was discovered on the tree at around 5:45 p.m.
The pageant area, where spectators can view the tree, has been cordoned off. Delgado said there are no safety precautions put on the tree, and could not say how high up the man was. The tree is not on the grounds of the White House and it was not believed anyone inside the building was in danger.
President Donald Trump and first lady Melania were present at the lighting of the 30-foot-tall blue spruce in November.
