Man claims £40,000 in refunds for trains he wasn't even on

A fraudster used a computer programme to pocket more than £40,000 in refunds for delayed trains that he didn't even take.

According to the Lancashire Live, Thomas William Ingram created false tickets on his computer, then used them to claim refunds and compensation.

The companies involved said the devious scheme cost them more that £150,000, but the court was unaware how this figure was reached and further inquests into the figures need to be made.

After applying for a refund, the scammer would then claim monetary compensation for the inconvenience caused to him.

Ingram's fraudulant schemes didn't end there, as he also boarded trains and paid for his journey using a card devoid of money. Ticket operators would only become aware of this at the end of the day when looking at their takings.

Thomas appeared at Preston Crown Court today (Thursday, February 6) wearing a black, plastic rain jacket, jeans and holding a black Adidas bag.

He pleaded guilty to all nine counts of fraud and will return to Preston Crown Court on March 19.
