Man City youngster Tosin Adarabioyo sets out five year captaincy plan

Manchester City youngster Tosin Adarabioyo has set a target of becoming club captain within five years when he returns from his loan at Blackburn this season.

Adarabioyo, 22, is in his second loan stint in the Championship, and has impressed at Ewood Park this season after overcoming injury at the start of the campaign.

The centre-back was at West Brom last season, who currently sit top of the second tier, but Adarabioyo insists 11th-placed Blackburn is a better place for him right now.

"I just felt like I needed to go out there and get some more games and prove what I can do," he told the Guardian .

"My aim has always been to get back to City and be a main player in that team. I felt I needed to go out again because last season I was predominantly playing right-back. I didn’t actually get to show what I can do.

"It was up and down [at West Brom]. I was playing out of position: right-back. I didn’t really enjoy that. That’s not where I play best but I learned a lot there.”

Now, after recently passing his 50th senior appearance, Adarabioyo has set his sights on a return to City and a crack at breaking into the first team. If that happens, the Manchester-born player and lifelong City fan says he wants to be leading the side and winning major silverware for the club.

"In five years’ time I’d like to be captain of Man City and have won the Premier League and the Champions League. Definitely it can happen," he continued.

However, the defender admitted there has been no talk of a return to the Etihad just yet, despite regular monitoring by loans manager Joleon Lescott.

"I’ve not really had much contact with them as of yet," he said.

"There is a loans manager, Joleon Lescott. He comes out and watches some games, sees how I’m doing and gives feedback. If that’s what they want [to return to City], I’ll be ready."
