Man City youngster Tommy Doyle reveals transfer move he 'would love' after Sheffield United loan

Manchester City academy graduate Tommy Doyle has admitted he “would love” to return to Sheffield United if the opportunity arises.

The midfielder played an instrumental part in helping the Blades to Premier League promotion and an FA Cup semi-final, scoring four and assisting seven in 38 outings during his season-long stay.

The 21-year-old has impressed during his stint at Bramall Lane alongside fellow Blues loanee James McAtee, both frequently earning the praise of boss Paul Heckingbottom. Doyle formed a strong relationship with the fans during his stay and has left the door open for a return as he prepares to travel back to parent club City.

Speaking to The Star, he said: “Listen, I can’t stand here and say to you what’s going to happen. I love the place and I would love to come back.

“I’ve got a special bond with the club and the fans so we’ll see what happens. But yes, of course, I would love to come back.” Sheffield United held an open-top bus parade to celebrate their promotion back to the top flight on Thursday.

Speaking ahead of the event, Doyle added on his future: “Today, I’ll just enjoy it and see what happens. For now, it’s all about celebrating. I’ve always been the same player.

"But I feel I know the game better now, because of how the staff and the rest of the lads here have treated me. Brilliant, really.”

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, Doyle sent a message to the club as he braces to rejoin City. He wrote: “Season 22/23 wrapped up! What a team to be around. A massive thank you, Blades - you carried us through at times and deserve to be back in the Premier League."

Doyle won the club’s Goal of the Season award for his stoppage-time strike against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
