Man City youngster sent warning over lack of Celtic FC playing time

Manchester City youngster Daniel Arzani has been warned by Australia manager Graham Arnold that he needs to start playing more if he wants a place in the national team.

After impressing for Melbourne City, City paid just under £1million to lure the 20-year-old to the Etihad Stadium, with Arzani considered one of Australia's most promising youngsters.

With first-team football unlikely in Manchester, he joined Celtic on a two-year loan deal in August 2018 with then manager Brendan Rodgers keen to link up with the talented winger.

However, Arzani suffered an ACL injury which kept him sidelined for the majority of his first year at Celtic Park.

Although upon returning to full fitness, he's struggled to break into the starting XI under Neil Lennon.

Arnold has warned his young star that he must consider leaving the Scottish Premiership if his game time doesn't increase over the next few months.

"Rene Meulensteen, my assistant, went up to Celtic and sat with Neil Lennon and they rate him highly," he told Fox Sports.

"They love him. They think that he is a special player but at the end of the day it's all about getting those opportunities on the pitch and getting game time and I think that will come to the forefront over the next six months.

"It's an important six months for Daniel before potentially the January transfer window that he gets game time.

"Celtic obviously are a strong club and have got a lot of depth. Daniel is under no illusions that he has to work extremely hard to get in that side."

Arzani was overlooked when Arnold named his squad to face Nepal and Taiwan in their World Cup qualifiers but will travel to face Qatar with the Australia Under-23s.
