Spanish club Girona have signed Manchester City youngster Dario Sarmiento on loan, the La Liga 2 outfit have confirmed.
Sarmiento, who joined City earlier this year following the expiry of his contract at Argentine outfit Estudiantes, has joined Girona for the duration of the 2021/22 campaign, significantly bolstering his prospects of earning regular first-team opportunities.
This deal is an internal move within the City Football Group, which City and Girona are both part of, meaning players from the clubs involved often switch between one another.
Sarmiento, who is only 18-years-old, plays as a winger, meaning he will bolster Girona's attacking options ahead of the start of the new campaign.
Although he is only young, the winger is not lacking in talent and potential, so much so that he was awarded with his Estudiantes first-team debut at the age of just 16-years-old, meaning he is the second-youngest player in the Argentine club's history to play at first-team level.
Although the likelihood of breaking into the squad at the Etihad Stadium this season was always slim, the youngster only had one thing in his mind when he heard about City's interest in his services a few months ago.
When asked about reported interest from the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, Sarmiento, as quoted by Sport Witness said: "The truth is that I don’t know, but as soon as they told me the real possibility of Manchester City, I did not hesitate, it made me very happy and I didn’t want to hear anything else."
He will now be hoping to make the most of his time in Spain before bolstering his opportunities of forcing his way into Pep Guardiola's plans in the future.
