Man City XI vs Man Utd: Confirmed team news, lineup and latest injuries for Carabao Cup semi-final

Leroy Sane is nearing a return for Manchester City as he steps up his recovery from knee ligament injury.

The Manchester City winger has been out since August, but is reaching the final stages of his recuperation.

Pep Guardiola confirmed: "I think he is close. I spoke with him two days ago and he said to me he is training alone with the ball.

“He is doing incredibly well, his knee looks really good so I don't think it is going to take too much time to come back to train with us. I think in the next few weeks he can come back.”

Sane’s imminent return is the latest piece of positive injury news for City after Aymeric Laporte resumed full training following his own knee ligament damage.

Tuesday’s EFL Cup semi final first leg will come too soon for the centre back, Guardiola has an otherwise fully fit squad to choose from.

"I have an idea but still I didn’t think about the cup," added the City manager. "Especially with the incredible amount of games some players have in the legs, they should be rested for the previous games.

"I have an idea of the way I want to play but I am not 100 percent sure of the guys who play tomorrow.

"It's good to have Laporte back. Everyone except for Leroy is in the training session because Nico (Otamendi) is back so we have almost a full squad for this period."

Man City lineup: Bravo, Walker, Otamendi, Fernandinho, Mendy, Rodrigo, Gundogan, Mahrez, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Sterling

Subs: Ederson, Jesus, Aguero, Silva, Cancelo, Foden, E Garcia
