Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City face Huddersfield on Wednesday - (ES Composite)

Pep Guardiola is set to make sweeping changes when Manchester City face Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup.

Wednesday’s third-round tie could see several youngsters be given an opportunity from the start, including exciting midfielder Divine Mukasa and classy defender Stephen Mfuni.

“They have chance [of playing],” said Guardiola. “They will come and after we'll see if they play from the beginning or during.”

Erling Haaland has been ruled out with a minor back injury but he is likely to have been rested anyway. Guardiola expects Haaland to be fit to face Burnley in the Premier League at the weekend.

Rodri will be given a rest after three starts in a week.

John Stones could make his first start since before the international break after returning from injury against Arsenal.

James Trafford, who re-joined the club from Burnley in the summer for around £40million, will start in goal with Gianluigi Donnarumma rested.

“Yeah,” confirmed Guardiola. “[He’s been unbelievable [since Gianluigi Donnarumma arrived].

“He is training better than ever, he is a fantastic keeper. And with me, all the keepers, the second keepers always play a lot of games. That will not be an exception.

“We are so safe, so confident, and he is so young, he will learn with Gigi and in the future we see what happens.”

Abdukodir Khusanov is set to miss three games after suffering an injury against Arsenal.

Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Mateo Kovacic, and Omar Marmoush remain sidelined with injury.

Predicted Man City XI (4-1-4-1): Trafford; Nunes, Stones, Ake, Mfuni; Nico, Lewis; Silva, Mukasa, Savinho; Bobb
