Man City XI vs Everton: Erling Haaland OUT - Starting lineup and confirmed team news

Tonight's trip to Everton has come too soon for Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.

Haaland has not played since he suffered a foot injury against Aston Villa three weeks ago and has not been named in the team to feature at Goodison Park.

It was previously reported that the Norwegian striker did not take part in training on Boxing Day, meaning he is also a doubt to face Sheffield United in three days' time.

Pep Guardiola did not give too much away about Haaland’s fitness before the team was announced while the Club World Cup had given him extra time work on his recovery.

Julian Alvarez continues to lead the line on Merseyside.

There were also doubts over the fitness of Rodri after his injury scare in the final of the Club World Cup.

But Rodri himself said after that win against Fluminense that he hoped to be fit to face Everton, and he is in the XI.

Kevin De Bruyne has resumed training and is closing in on a return, but this match has come too soon for him. Jeremy Doku also remains absent after he failed to feature at the Club World Cup with a muscle issue.

There is also no Ruben Dias, who is ill.

Man City XI: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Akanji, Ake; Rodri, Nunes; Silva, Foden, Grealish; Alvarez

Subs: Ortega, Phillips, Kovacic, Gomez, Gvardiol, Bobb, Susoho, Lewis, Hamilton

Injuries: De Bruyne, Haaland, Doku

Time and date: 8.15pm GMT, Wednesday December 27, 2023

Venue: Goodison Park
