Man City Women's Continental Cup clash with Chelsea called off amidst continuing coronavirus crisis

Manchester City Women's Continental Cup quarter-final clash with Chelsea has been postponed due to the coronavirus crisis currently sweeping the squad.

The fixture was scheduled to take place this coming Wednesday.

A statement from the club read: "In line with the decision made earlier this week to reschedule the Club’s upcoming Barclays FA Women’s Super League match against West Ham United due to COVID cases and other mitigating factors, the Football Association have now also postponed the team’s subsequent fixture."

The match against West Ham United - which would have been Hammers' new boss Olli Harder's first game in charge - was called off earlier in the week after four positive coronavirus tests within the City squad.

It followed reports of overseas trips by players during the festive period, when the WSL was on a two-week break.

Manchester was in Tier 3 at that point, with no law forbidding overseas travel, and reports suggest that the players had cleared the visits with the club.
