Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez says comparisons with Liverpool forward Mo Salah do not bother him.
Mahrez moved to City last year from Leicester and immediately helped his new side to the Premier League title - the second of his career.
City were pushed all the way by Liverpool, led by Salah, who went on to lift the Champions League in Madrid.
Salah has enjoyed two productive seasons since joining Liverpool, as he was joint top goalscorer in the Premier League in 2017/18, a year after he won the PFA Player of the Year.
Mahrez is also a past recipient of the PFA award, winning the accolade as he won the title with Leicester in 2016.
And as the City man prepares for the African Cup of Nations with Algeria, he says comparisons with Salah are not surprising.
“I am not bothered at all [with comparisons with Salah]," he told Al Kass.
"I hadn’t known Salah well before he came to the Premier League. That said the two seasons he played in England were exceptional.
“He deserves all what he achieved. Regarding the comparisons, I don’t follow what goes on the internet a lot. There are several Arab players playing for big clubs and it’s normal they get compared to each other and this is a good thing. I hope to see more Arab players in Europe."
As Salah also prepares for the AFCON with Egypt, Mahrez added that both players are looking to resume their rivalry from the Premier League at international level.
He continued: "And anyway we [Mahrez and Salah] now are with our national teams and we will see who will manage to help his side more in reaching further stages.”
