Man City willing to pay Lautaro Martinez release clause and more transfer rumours

Manchester City are willing to pay Lautaro Martinez's full release clause in order to sign the Inter star, according to reports.

While City have continued to be relentless in front of goal this season, and are the Premier League's top scorers, they could be in the market for a new striker once the transfer window reopens.

Although he continues to score at will, Sergio Aguero is reaching the twilight of his career and his contract is set to expire in 2021 and Gabriel Jesus is being repeatedly linked with a move to Juventus, rumours that his agent didn't exactly move to dispel.

As a result, the Blues have been linked with a number of strikers in recent months but none more so than Argentine forward Martinez.

The 22-year-old has established himself as one of football's hottest prospects this season, with his 16 goals in 31 appearances helping Inter compete for the Serie A title.

Martinez has also bagged nine goals in 17 games for his country and is now attracting interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs.

According to Sport, via SportWitness, City are willing to pay the release clause of €111m to secure the striker and hand him a hefty salary as well.

Barcelona are also said to be interested and it's reported that while the Catalans won't be able to match City's offer, they believe that Martinez would rather stay at Inter if he can't secure a move to Barcelona to play alongside his compatriot Lionel Messi.

Meanwhile, City could renew their interest in Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell, according to reports.

City were initially set to move for Chilwell last summer but decided against spending big on a new left-back, following the emergence of Aleks Zinchenko and the willingness to give Benjamin Mendy another chance.

Instead, Angelino was re-signed in a cut-price deal from PSV but the Spaniard has already left again, joining RB Leipzig on loan.

City have struggled at left-back again this season and, according to One Football, could target Chilwell once again when the transfer window reopens.
