Man City will play Southampton in FA Cup quarter-final as Pep Guardiola targets trophy

Manchester City have been drawn away to Southampton in the sixth round of the FA Cup.

The FA Cup quarter-finals will take place on the weekend of Friday 18 March to Monday 21 March. The Blues will travel to Southampton as they look to progress to the semi-finals of the competition, which will be held at Wembley Stadium.

Pep Guardiola has won the FA Cup just once during his trophy-laden reign in Manchester, but City have made light work of their opposition in England's oldest cup competition this season. City beat Peterborough 2-0 on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish, and they brushed aside high-flying Fulham before that, winning that match 4-1 in impressive style.

Southampton have impressed this season under Ralph Hasenhuttl, beating West Ham 3-1 in the last round of the FA Cup.

City won their fourth consecutive Carabao Cup last term but they were knocked out of that competition this season by West Ham in October. Liverpool subsequently won that trophy and City will be hoping to respond in the FA Cup.

The Blues have won the trophy just once during Guardiola's reign, in 2019, and only twice this century. They were eliminated in last season's semi-final by Chelsea, who finished runners-up to Leicester City.
