Man City weigh up Sergio Aguero fitness for Brighton FA Cup semi-final

Manchester City's doctors will assess whether Sergio Aguero could do further damage before deciding whether he should play against Brighton.

The club's top scorer is enjoying one of his best ever seasons with 29 goals to his name already, and has moved clear ahead of Gabriel Jesus in Pep Guardiola's pecking order; it was telling that he was called for from the bench when Swansea threatened an FA Cup scare last month.

Guardiola has named strong teams in the competition this year from the third round against Rotherham, and has vowed to do exactly the same as they try to book another Wembley return.

However, Aguero's fitness will be of concern as the manager plans for a hectic April that includes three games against Tottenham and trips to United, Palace, and Burnley.

Back in December, the coach justified leaving the Argentine out against Bournemouth by saying that it was "not safe" to play him in a month with so many games and that playing him could have seen him miss "four or five weeks".

Aguero has travelled with the squad down to Wembley, but a decision has not yet been made on whether he will play.

"Sergio is going to play when he’s really, really fit," said Guardiola.

"The doctors are going to tell me if he’s a risk of being injured and after that whether it could be three or four weeks out. If that is the case I’m sure he’s not going to play. It’s a semi-final. It’s an important game and we’ll play with the best side possible."
