Manchester City are in pole position to qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals when they welcome Schalke for the second leg of their last-16 tie.
There was almost a shock in Gelsenkirchen when Schalke led 2-1 with five minutes of the first leg to play. But an unstoppable free-kick from their former star Leroy Sane - followed by a Raheem Sterling strike - handed Man City a 3-2 victory.
Three away goals mean Schalke will have to either win by two clear goals in Manchester or score at least three times, and Pep Guardiola will be confident of joining Tottenham and Manchester United in the last eight of the competition.
