Man City vs Nottingham Forest prediction and odds as Pep Guardiola's side could run riot against new boys

Check out our 9/1 and 12/1 Man City vs Nottingham Forest predictions below

Manchester City face Nottingham Forest for the first time in the top flight since 2002 and bookmaker odds suggest the points are only going in one direction. City are a hugely restrictive 1/12 with Betway to make it three from three at home this term while newly-promoted Forest are a whopping 28/1 to pull off what would surely be regarded as one of the biggest upsets in recent Premier League history.

City were given a bit if a fright by Crystal Palace at the weekend despite dominating proceedings throughout. Palace only had two shots on target in the entire 90 minutes and generated an xGF (Expected Goals For) of just 0.1 so the visitors were hugely fortunate to be two goals to the good at half-time.

It mattered not in the end because City turned things around in stunning fashion, scoring four goals in under 30 second-half minutes - including a stunning hat-trick from three of which were scored by Erling Haaland who looks destined for many more trebles in his time at the Etihad. It would hardly be the biggest surprise in football if he were to repeat the trick on Wednesday night.

No Premier League team has made as many new additions as Nottingham Forest this summer and Steve Cooper appears to be doing a decent enough job integrating his new signings. Forest are thoroughly competent in their build-up play but they have issues in both boxes, which is ultimately where games matter most, and that is going to be a major problem for them at the Etihad.

Forest haven't been creating many big chances, so much so that they have failed to exceed an xGF of 1.0 in three of their four league games so far. Given how little of the ball they are likely to see in this fixture, it's difficult to see the visitors finding the net.

At the same time, they have been giving up big chances - their xGA (Expected Goals Against) has been above 2 in three of their four games and was 1.8 in the other) and they allowed Spurs 18 efforts on their goal on Sunday. If that trend continues at the Etihad, Forest are staring at a heavy defeat.

Man City vs Nottingham Forest prediction

City have scored four goals in each of their home games so far and another meaty goals tally looks most likely in this fixture. City to win to nil is a short 7/20 so that's no use to us although both teams to score (no) is a more appealing 8/13.

However, it's probably best to combine some correct score wagers and a 5-0 or 6-0 home win looks distinctly possible.

Man City vs Nottingham Forest prediction: Back Man City to win 5-0 (9/1) and 6-0 (12/1)
