Manchester City vs Manchester United LIVE
Reigan Heskey scored a late winner as Manchester City pipped arch rivals Manchester United to the 2026 FA Youth Cup, delivering the title back to the blue half of Manchester for the first time since 2024. A cagey first-half betrayed the nerves both sides were likely feeling from kick-off, but a flurry of activity set the tie alight as the break approached.
Tyrone Samba opened the scoring to give City the lead, but it lasted barely a minute before Godwill Kukonki fired home from close range to level the match at the break. United struggled to muster much attacking threat through the second half but managed to neutralise their hosts’ attacking play until Heskey hit his winner at the death and Chido Obi saw another equaliser cleared off the line in injury time.
Despite being billed as a face-off between two wonderkids in City’s Teddie Lamb and United’s JJ Gabriel, neither of the match’s main characters found the back of the net. Catch up with the action as it happened below with Standard Sport’s dedicated match blog, complete with expert insight and analysis.

Darren Fletcher on JJ Gabriel
18:45 , Arthur FerridgeDarren Fletcher has been speaking to the MEN about the prodigious talent that is JJ Gabriel...
“JJ's an amazing talent and his enthusiasm for football, the enthusiasm that he brings to the pitch every day to learn, to want to play, to be on the ball.... He's been a pleasure to work with.
“He's a fantastic kid. I think we have to remember he's a kid. And also that he's been part of a really good team, and the players have helped him as well. We've got a lot of good players in that team.
“JJ has scored the goals, and goals always get the limelight. He's an amazing talent with a major future and somebody I've enjoyed working with immensely, like I have done with all the players. I think JJ has recognised the amount of help he's had from teammates as well.
“The team has given him the ball into those positions to score goals. In terms of the way the team have played, he's bought into it, as all the attacking players have with the out-of-possession stuff.”

Standard Sport prediction
18:15 , Arthur FerridgeAfter they were narrowly beaten to the U18 Premier League title by City, United will come into this match with a point to prove. Whether they can prove it, though, remains to be seen.
United came out on top the last time these sides met, and will hope to repeat that feat here.
With City on home turf, though, it should at least be a close-fought match.
