Man City vs Liverpool: Vincent Kompany says ‘every living soul must be ready to fight’ in key title race clash

The importance of Thursday’s meeting between Man City and Liverpool has certainly not been lost on Vincent Kompany.

The City captain, who against Southampton completed his first 90minutes in the Premier League since October, laid down a battle cry ahead of the clash that will go a long way to deciding who will win the title this season.

Victory over Southampton saw City cut Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table to seven points as they jumped back above Tottenham into second spot, and Kompany says that everyone associated with the reigning champions must be ‘ready to fight’ at the Etihad on Thursday.

"The same as always, we want to win. It is one of those key games you live for. Every living soul that comes into the stadium on Thursday has to be ready to fight and give it to them, and we should be able to pull everything out of the locker for that game."

City bounced-backed from defeats to Crystal Palace and Leicester City with a comfortable 3-1 victory at Southampton - and captain Kompany was pleased with how his side asserted themselves at St Mary’s.

"The performance was excellent we looked aggressive in retrieving the ball,” he continued.

“We shouldn't focus too much on points at the moment, we know if we can play to our potential we know we are a good team.

“Our pride has been hurt over the last few weeks but we have everything to play for and it depends on us."

How will the 2018-19 Premier League season finish up?
