Man City vs Liverpool venue confirmed for potential Premier League title decider

Manchester City's Premier League clash with Liverpool will take place at the Etihad Stadium next week.

Liverpool could enter the clash as the newly-minted Premier League champions, if City cannot win at Chelsea on Thursday night.

But the Reds may also be facing the prospect of securing their first championship in 30 years at the home of the closest rivals, Pep Guardiola's back-to-back champions.

Police had questioned whether the game should be played at a neutral venue amid worries that fans of both clubs could potentially congregate outside the ground.

But now Manchester City Council have confirmed that its Safety Advisory Group has made no objections with regards the venue.

As such, the Etihad will play host to the potential title decider.

A statement confirmed: “The Council’s Safety Advisory Group (SAG) for the Etihad Stadium met this morning to review the upcoming fixture between Manchester City FC and Liverpool FC.

“Following the most recent round of Premier League fixtures which have all taken place behind closed doors the SAG has signalled it has no objections to the above fixture taking place at the Etihad Stadium as planned at 8.15pm, Thursday July 2.

"As with all other Premier League matches this fixture will take place behind closed doors, with no fans present.”

Liverpool's 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening moved them to within inches of the title.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Fabinho were on target in a dominant display.

Jurgen Klopp's men now await the result of City's trip to Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.

If City fail to claim all three points, then Guardiola's side's reign as champions will officially end.
