Man City vs Liverpool FC Community Shield fixture date confirmed

The date for this coming season's Community Shield match has been confirmed, with Manchester City taking on Liverpool on Sunday, August 4.

After an incredible campaign last season in which City beat the Reds to the final by a single point, the intense competitive rivalry will be renewed at Wembley Stadium in the season's curtain raiser.

The exhibition match comes the weekend before the start of the 2019/20 season. It will kick-off at 3pm and be broadcast on BT Sport.

City will be looking to retain the trophy after winning it in last year's final with a 2-0 victory over Chelsea, courtesy of a Sergio Aguero brace.

The Community Shield is usually competed between the winners of the Premier League and the FA Cup, but as City won both trophies on their way to a unprecedented treble, the team which finished second in the league will compete instead.

Despite missing out on the first Premier League triumph in their history, Liverpool did manage to claim some glory for their efforts last season by winning their sixth Champions League with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

The Community Shield is usually seen as a friendly match, but with this year's being competed between the two best sides in the country who'll want to impose their dominance prior what looks set to be another epic title race, it may be the perfect start to the coming season.
