Man City vs Liverpool a clash of 'two of best teams in the world', says Kostas Tsimikas

Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas insists tomorrow’s meeting with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium will be a clash between two of the best teams in the world.

Second-place Liverpool trail leaders City by just one point heading into the game, and the sides managed by Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have set the standards since first going toe-to-toe for the title in 2018-19.

Both sides have won the Premier League and Champions League since then, and Tsimikas is in no doubts about their pedigree.

“Anything can happen in this game”, said the Greek international, who may stand in for injured left-back Andrew Robertson in the lunchtime kick-off.

“I think it’s two of the best teams in the world right now. The only thing we have to see it like is as a final. Especially in home games, they are very, very strong — but we are Liverpool. We will go there to play our football, to give absolutely everything and to win the game.

“The only thing that matters in these kinds of games is to take the three points. They [City] are always there. They win the Premier League, Champions League last year, they made the treble last year. I think it will be a very tough one.”

City are set to make late calls on the fitness of Erling Haaland, Nathan Ake, Matheus Nunes, Sergio Gomez and Ederson. Guardiola is already unable to call on the injured trio of John Stones, Kevin De Bruyne and Mateo Kovacic.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have been boosted by the returns for Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez. However, they will be without Robertson and long-term absentee Thiago Alcantara.
