Manchester City’s bid to qualify for the Champions League received a boost as they gave Kevin De Bruyne the send-off he deserved in his final home game.
The hosts beat Bournemouth 3-1 at the Etihad to move into third in the top flight, and require only one more point to secure Champions League qualification for next season despite a largely poor campaign.
Omar Marmoush broke the deadlock in the opening stages with a moment of brilliance, curling in a screamer from nearly 30 yards out, while De Bruyne himself had the chance to double their lead but rattled the crossbar from close range in the first half.
Bernardo Silva made sure of their lead, however, as Bournemouth were penalised for a largely sluggish and uninspiring display, before substitute Nico Gonzalez - on for the departing De Bruyne - slotted home his first Premier League goal shortly before full-time.
It was a dramatic game with both sides reduced to 10 men in rapid succession, City hit first when Mateo Kovacic was sent off for a pull-back on Evanilson when the Bournemouth forward was through on goal - necessitating De Bruyne’s early exit - before Lewis Cook was also given a straight red for a studs-up challenge on substitute Nico Gonzalez. Daniel Jebbison clawed one back for the Cherries but it was too little, too late as they saw their own European hopes go up in smoke.

De Bruyne giving himself no breaks
22:30 , Will CastleKevin De Bruyne missed a sitter tonight. You’d think on this sort of occasion, he’d be excused. He won’t allow it, however.
“It's terrible,” he said. “There's no excuses. My son is going to be very tough on me today."

De Bruyne: "It's been an unbelievable ride"
22:20 , Will Castle"Its been unbelievable to have the 10 years that I've had over here,” De Bruyne said. “It's been an unbelievable ride, an absolute pleasure.”
"I want to bring joy to people, play offensive football, creative, that is what I am on the pitch and I want to have fun. I think we had a lot of fun over the 10 years.
“You win, you lose sometimes. It was a joy working really hard and creating something for this club which brought the club much better than it was before. I'm super proud."
Kevin De Bruyne sendoff
22:11 , Will CastleNot a single Man City fan has left their seat for Kevin De Bruyne’s sendoff. Because of course they haven’t.
One of the greatest midfielders to grace the Premier League. We will be sad to see him go.

Manchester City 3-1 Bournemouth
22:04 , Flo CliffordKevin De Bruyne hugs his family as the Etihad prepares to give him a proper send-off.
Manchester City 3-1 Bournemouth
22:00 , Flo CliffordThere will be a light show for Kevin de Bruyne now, a guard of honour too. They will miss him. His final night included an unfortunate miss. But what a sensational player he has been; surely the best in their history.
FULL-TIME: Manchester City 3-1 Bournemouth
21:57 , Flo Clifford90+6 mins: A weird way to end that game, but ultimately it’s three points in the bag for City and a successful send-off for De Bruyne, plus a return for Rodri.
City keep their European destiny in their own hands as they move up to third, while Bournemouth’s European dreams are over.
GOAL! Manchester City 3-1 Bournemouth
21:56 , Flo Clifford90+5 mins: Too little, too late for Bournemouth, but still a goal. It’s a careless pass by City near their goal and Jebbison runs onto it. Ederson comes out to block but it just runs through his legs and bounces into the net.
Manchester City 3-0 Bournemouth
21:54 , Flo Clifford90+4 mins: Not much to see here. City have everyone camped out in their box to make sure they keep a clean sheet.
Jebbison works hard to try to keep the ball in play at the corner flag but his momentum carries him into the advertising hoardings.
Manchester City 3-0 Bournemouth
21:51 , Flo Clifford90 mins: Six minutes added on and Pep gives a couple of other players a run-out. Marmoush comes off to warm applause. He, Gundogan and Silva are off for Bobb, Doku and Grealish.
GOAL! Manchester City 3-0 Bournemouth
21:49 , Flo Clifford89 mins: This is delightful from Gonzalez! It’s a first Premier League goal for him as he makes a great run from deep before shimmying around Smith and bending it round him to lash home.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:47 , Flo Clifford87 mins: Bournemouth have a first corner of the game but Rodri jumps highest to clear it.
Brooks rounds a City man out wide on the left and pulls it back at the post, but can’t pick out a teammate and Gundogan clears.
Now Kepa has a moment of madness, coming almost to the half-way line to deal with Marmoush, and is very lucky that Zabarnyi runs back in time to deal with the oncoming ball. Can’t be doing that, mate.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:42 , Flo Clifford83 mins: And here he is, almost eight months after he last played... Rodri gets a standing ovation as he replaces Haaland, with the Norwegian giving him a big hug as he makes way.
Kerkez, Bournemouth’s best player so far, is replaced by Soler, while Evanilson comes off for Jebbison.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:40 , Flo Clifford82 mins: Marmoush takes the free-kick and goes for goal again, but it flies over the bar.
On the sidelines Rodri is getting ready to come on.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:39 , Flo Clifford80 mins: Gonzalez was hobbling after that challenge but is back up and fine to continue.
Nervy moments for Bournemouth as Kepa comes way off his line to deny Haaland and then takes an age to get back into his goal, with City still lurking.
Smith now barges Haaland over and complains about conceding a free-kick.
RED CARD! Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:33 , Flo Clifford73 mins: What is going on?! Cook brings down substitute Gonzalez, catching him on the shin with the follow-through, and both sides are down to 10 in a ludicrous six minutes.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:31 , Flo CliffordMateo Kovacic's red card may make these final 20 minutes more nervous for City. It also rules him out of their final-day trip to Fulham. The forgotten man Nico Gonzalez may suddenly have a big part to play.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:31 , Flo Clifford72 mins: Smith replaces Araujo for Bournemouth as they look to make good their numerical advantage.
Ederson also picked up a yellow card for protesting against Kovacic’s red.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:29 , Flo Clifford70 mins: “Oh, Kevin De Bruyne” rings out again as the star man is withdrawn for Nico Gonzalez. He looks emotional and gets a big hug from Guardiola as he troops off, waving to the appreciative crowd. What a career, what a player for City.
RED CARD! Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:28 , Flo Clifford67 mins: Kovacic pulls down Evanilson; he’s the last man and it’s a denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity. It’s his second red of the season and all of a sudden things could get interesting.
RED CARD! Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:26 , Flo Clifford67 mins: Well, well, well! Kovacic sees red!
Pep Guardiola quite literally jumps up and down and stamps his foot on the sideline.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:24 , Flo Clifford65 mins: Haaland gets the better of Huijsen, rounding him and taking a touch, but Zabarnyi is there to block.
Now Marmoush fancies another 30-yard screamer! But it takes a deflection and flies narrowly over the net.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:21 , Flo Clifford62 mins: A huge roar from the crowd as Rodri comes out to warm up, applauding the crowd in response as he jogs down the pitch.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:19 , Flo Clifford60 mins: Bit more intent from Bournemouth now as Semenyo darts in from the right and opens himself up to strike, but it flies high and wide.
Now De Bruyne makes a run in the opposite box and shoots from near the byline, but Kepa leaps onto it.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:17 , Flo CliffordThere are plenty of City substitutes warming up, including Nathan Ake, Nico O'Reilly and Phil Foden, but no sign of Rodri so far. Perhaps his comeback won't occur tonight but his return to fitness should provide a fillip ahead of the Club World Cup.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:16 , Flo Clifford57 mins: Great ball forward from Cook to Kerkez, who floats a delightful cross from wide on the left into the centre. Brooks can’t quite get a toe to it at full stretch, and it rolls out harmlessly.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:15 , Flo Clifford55 mins: It’s felt a bit flat so far in this half so far, but City press forward again. Haaland gets the better of Zabarnyi and lays it off for De Bruyne, who has a shot blocked by £50m man Huijsen.
“Oh, Kevin de Bruyne” rings out again.
The Belgian takes a corner, which pinballs around the box for a bit before it’s cleared.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:11 , Flo Clifford51 mins: The volume notches up again as De Bruyne receives the ball in space down the centre. The ball is worked to Nunes but he launches his effort way over the bar, no replay of Marmoush’s wonder-goal there.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:07 , Flo Clifford47 mins: Chance for Bournemouth early doors in this half. Kerkez crosses from the left but Evanilson can’t get his header on target.
Little bit quiet inside the Etihad at the moment.
SECOND HALF: Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
21:04 , Flo Clifford45 mins: Back underway. City have not really been troubled so far - can Bournemouth change things in this half?
Kluivert is replaced by Brooks.
City on course to move from sixth to third
20:55 , Flo CliffordCity are on course to jump from sixth to third, which would mean they would only require a point on Sunday to get a Champions League spot. As it stands, Bournemouth's hopes of a maiden trip into Europe are ending.
HALF-TIME: Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
20:49 , Flo Clifford45+2 mins: Bournemouth have a couple of chances to end this half but can’t do anything with them.
Nunes does well to make the crucial block on Kluivert, in the middle of the area from a promising Bournemouth cutback. The visitors come again but Kluivert then launches a volley over the bar.
And that’s the end of the half, with City firmly on top and cruising into the Champions League places as it stands.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
20:46 , Flo Clifford45 mins: Two minutes added on to this half.
CLOSE! Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
20:46 , Flo Clifford45 mins: Bournemouth are just looking a bit flat. As it stands City are up into third and booking their place in the Champions League next season.
Araujo does well to get the ball at full stretch off a sprinting Gvardiol down the left, but he goes into the book for the foul. Seems a bit harsh. Free-kick to City.
De Bruyne’s delivery is punched away by Kepa but City recyle; Haaland is in tap-in territory but stumbles under pressure and the keeper collects. Should have just held onto it the first time.
Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
20:43 , Flo Clifford40 mins: Haaland has a chance to add a third but selflessly tries to tee up De Bruyne instead. It doesn’t work.
GOAL! Manchester City 2-0 Bournemouth
20:40 , Flo Clifford38 mins: That might have killed this game off. Bournemouth are cut wide open at the back, failing to adequately clear a City move. Gundogan’s first touch isn’t great but he recovers and cuts it back at the byline for Bernardo Silva, who takes a touch and just slots home.
Manchester City 1-0 Bournemouth
20:38 , Flo Clifford38 mins: Bournemouth press again and Ederson plays a bad back-pass, but Tavernier has his shot blocked. Huijsen goes into the book for a shirt tug on Gundogan.
Now De Bruyne is up in arms about not getting a free-kick.
CHANCE! Manchester City 1-0 Bournemouth
20:34 , Flo Clifford33 mins: Bournemouth should be level! They work it down the left, where they’ve threatened so far. Tavernier crosses across to Evanilson, who gets his right shin to it at full stretch - but slams it against the post!
Manchester City 1-0 Bournemouth
20:33 , Flo CliffordThat miss was less "Oh, Kevin de Bruyne" than "No, Kevin de Bruyne". His wife seemed to be watching it back on her phone. It looked like she couldn't believe it either.
Manchester City 1-0 Bournemouth
20:32 , Flo Clifford31 mins: The Etihad is much quieter after that miss. The cameras pan to De Bruyne’s family in the stands, presumably watching a replay and covering their faces in disbelief.
Marmoush slots through to Gundogan in the box but he’s frustrated by a Bournemouth defender sticking doggedly to him, and then the flag goes up.
CLOSE! Manchester City 1-0 Bournemouth
20:27 , Flo Clifford25 mins: How has De Bruyne missed that? Kepa is nowhere in sight, Marmoush lays it off for the midfielder but his thumping effort rattles against the crossbar and back out! Neither he nor the crowd can believe it.
close! Manchester City 1-0 Bournemouth
20:24 , Flo Clifford23 mins: The noise ratchets up every time City get near the opposition box. Marmoush is urged to shoot with every touch.
De Bruyne chips it in from the right side of the box towards Haaland at the far post. The Norwegian somehow gets an acrobatic kick to it but Kepa collects! That would have been quite impressive.
Manchester City 1-0 Bournemouth
20:19 , Flo Clifford18 mins: Bournemouth look to respond, but Tavernier’s cross is straight to Ederson.
Manchester City 1-0 Bournemouth
20:18 , Flo CliffordOmar Marmoush may be more deadly from at least 25 yards than exactly 12.
GOAL! Manchester City 1-0 Bournemouth
20:16 , Flo Clifford14 mins: Marmoush breaks the deadlock! The noise ratchets up every time City press forward but this almost takes the Etihad by surprise - he drifts into the centre of the area and curls a magnificent effort, with incredible spin, power and precision, right into the top corner from 30 yards out. Kepa leaps to it but has no chance. That was a beauty.
Bournemouth can look a threat on the counter
20:13 , Flo CliffordAn odd mix of a Manchester City team tonight with fast, physical players in defence and four thirty-something midfielders, including De Bruyne, who is playing off the right wing. It means Bournemouth can look a threat on the counter-attack.
Manchester City 0-0 Bournemouth
20:12 , Flo Clifford10 mins: De Bruyne has been busy so far. He threads a pass through to Nunes, who gets his foot to it, but Kepa - after a moment of hesitation - rushes off his line to smother.
Chance! Manchester City 0-0 Bournemouth
20:09 , Flo Clifford8 mins: Silva has a great chance but can’t find a teammate for a pull-back. Bournemouth immediately counter, but Tavernier takes too long to take a touch on the edge of the City box and is robbed.
Now City recycle a move set up by De Bruyne; Zabarnyi heads off his cross but it winds into the path of Kovacic, who shoots and fires narrowly wide.
Manchester City 0-0 Bournemouth
20:06 , Flo Clifford6 mins: Ruben Dias is caught napping and Kluivert darts round him - but does he slip? It looks like he loses his footing and his shot is tamely fired at Ederson.
City counter and De Bruyne does what he does best, turning round a lovely ball on the spin for Silva. Silva is marked closely by Kerkez and lays it off on the edge of the area but the move loses steam and Kepa collects.
Manchester City 0-0 Bournemouth
20:03 , Flo Clifford2 mins: Some early pressing by Bournemouth; Kerkez is given lots of space down the left and lays the ball off for Tavernier, but no-one can meet his cross.
Semenyo lobs in the resulting throw-in but it’s claimed easily by Ederson.
KICK-OFF: Manchester City vs Bournemouth

'Welcome returns' for City
19:53 , Flo CliffordYesterday, Pep Guardiola did not guarantee that Kevin de Bruyne would start his final game at the Etihad. Perhaps it was a bit of kidology but he does. There are a few welcome returns in what is a huge game for City: Mateo Kovacic, who missed the FA Cup final, is back in the team, Rodri, after an eight-month absence, is back on the bench. And an old City favourite is here tonight, too, in Pablo Zabaleta.
‘You learn who you can go to war with’: Bernardo Silva reveals lessons from Man City’s ‘bad’ season
19:50 , Flo CliffordIt is three decades since the FA Cup was won by the ‘dogs of war’. It is fair to say Pep Guardiola has never modelled his midfields on the scrappers and scufflers who brought Joe Royle’s Everton glory in 1995. But, some 30 years on, after another FA Cup final that a Manchester club entered as favourites and lost 1-0 to underdogs, the lament from Bernardo Silva was that a Guardiola side had too few warriors.

Real Madrid activate £50m release clause to sign Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen
19:40 , Flo CliffordBournemouth defender Dean Huijsen will move to Real Madrid in time to feature in the Club World Cup after the Spanish giants activated his £50m release clause.
Madrid have moved to sign the 20-year-old defender on a five-year deal after his impressive performances this season brought him to the attention of several clubs across Europe.
The deal was jointly announced by both clubs, with Madrid saying that Huijsen will join their ranks on 1 June, two weeks before the Club World Cup kicks off in the United States. Madrid’s first match is against Al Hilal on 18 June.

Champions League qualification permutations: What each team needs for top five
19:30 , Flo CliffordThe race for the final three Champions League qualification spots will go down to the wire on the final day of the Premier League season.
The top-five teams in the Premier League, plus the winner of the Europa League final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, will qualify directly.
Champions Liverpool and runners-up Arsenal have already booked their spot, as Manchester City, Newcastle United, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest battle for the remaining places.
There is just one point separating those five teams heading into the final week, with City playing their game in hand at home to Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
The final day of the season should be a cracker with Nottingham Forest hosting Chelsea in a potential Champions League play-off.

Team news - Bournemouth
19:18 , Flo CliffordTwo changes for Bournemouth from their recent defeat to Aston Villa.
Julian Araujo starts at right-back ahead of Adam Smith and Alex Scott, who fractured his jaw in that loss, is replaced by Justin Kluivert.
There’s also a start for Dean Huijsen at centre-back: the youngster will join Real Madrid in the summer after they activated his £50m release clause, a tidy sum.
Team news - Man City
19:16 , Flo CliffordEven Pep Guardiola isn’t immune to the emotional resonane of Kevin De Bruyne’s final home game for City. The Belgian will start and captain the squad.
Four changes then for City from the FA Cup final defeat, with Kovacic - who missed it - coming into the starting XI along with Ilkay Gundogan and Matheus Nuns. Jeremy Doku, Savinho and Nico O’Reilly drop to the bench.
Ederson is also back in goal, while Rodri makes it onto the bench after his lengthy absence.

Eberechi Eze secures Crystal Palace glory to evoke the very best of the FA Cup
19:05 , Flo CliffordUnless you’ve been living under a rock you’ll have seen that in City’s last outing, they lost the FA Cup final. Can they bounce back from defeat today, or can Bournemouth give Pep Guardiola even more to fume on?

Eze secures Crystal Palace glory to evoke the very best of the FA Cup
Kevin De Bruyne’s Manchester City legacy is secure but his future looks uncertain
18:55 , Flo CliffordKevin de Bruyne had a way of shrugging off the disappointment. Saturday could have finished with him lifting the FA Cup as Manchester City captain, a final trophy to add to a vast collection. “Yeah, okay. I could have won 20, I have 19 now,” he said. “It's alright, this doesn't change anything that's happened in the past 10 years. Of course I want to win, but I wanted to win last year also. There's things that happen and it's been amazing, so what can I say? It's mostly been really, really good moments, so that's life.”
That phlegmatic approach extended to the manner of his departure. City didn’t offer their greatest player a new contract, even if the last few weeks have shown he remains an astonishingly good passer of the ball, even if the tributes have flowed from Pep Guardiola and his teammates and even, before Saturday’s defeat to Crystal Palace, from the Prince of Wales. “The decision is what it is,” reflected De Bruyne. “Obviously it's not something that was nice at the moment, but I accept it and I move on. It's not the end of life.”

‘Unique’ Kevin De Bruyne leaves Man City with an impossible question
18:45 , Flo CliffordSenior football correspondent Richard Jolly had this to say on the plans for De Bruyne’s final home game:
It will be Kevin De Bruyne’s night. Although, in some respects, it doesn’t really sound like his kind of occasion. De Bruyne has been Manchester City’s down-to-earth superstar, the footballer who does the school run. There will be a light show after his final game at the Etihad Stadium. When De Bruyne’s name has been up in lights, it has tended to be because of talent, rather than preference, due to the way he manipulates a ball rather than chases fame. He might not have chosen this, just as he didn’t choose to leave this year.
But a farewell involves a recognition, a celebration. Of a decade that has brought 19 trophies, 108 goals, 173 assists, moments that no one else could imagine, let alone produce. There will be a guard of honour from his teammates and a lap of appreciation, pyrotechnics and presents, some handed over by Marie and Jon Bell, the wife and son of Colin. Their late husband and father long had the status of City’s greatest player. Now that probably rests with De Bruyne.

Man City to make decision on Jack Grealish future at end of season
18:35 , Flo CliffordAnother City player could be joining Kevin De Bruyne in moving on to pastures new...
Pep Guardiola has said a decision will be made on Jack Grealish’s Manchester City future at the end of the season.
The England international, signed for £100million four years ago, has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium since his starring role in the 2023 treble-winning campaign.
The 29-year-old has made just seven Premier League starts this term and was not summoned from the bench during Saturday’s FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace.

Pep Guardiola reveals stance over Kevin De Bruyne’s Man City farewell
18:25 , Flo CliffordPep Guardiola has cast doubt over whether Kevin De Bruyne will start in his farewell to the Etihad Stadium.
De Bruyne is leaving Manchester City in the summer after a decade and is arguably the club’s greatest ever player.
But City face a crucial game against Bournemouth on Tuesday, with Guardiola’s team needing four points from their last two matches to qualify for the Champions League, while De Bruyne played the whole of the FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace.
Guardiola claimed that De Bruyne is less concerned about starting against Bournemouth than seeing City book a top-five finish.
“What Kevin wants is that we win the game to qualify for the Champions League,” Guardiola said. “I'm going to decide the best players to win the game against Bournemouth.”

Early team news
18:10 , Flo CliffordPep Guardiola did not guarantee that Kevin De Bruyne would start after playing in City’s defeat in the FA Cup final.
Mateo Kovacic is a doubt after picking up a knock but Rico Lewis could be recalled after dropping out of City’s squad. Rodri, John Stones and Nathan Ake remain out.
Bournemouth will be without Alex Scott, Luis Sinisterra, Enes Unal, Ryan Christie and Dango Ouattara.

Good evening
18:00 , Flo CliffordHello and welcome to live coverage of Manchester City vs Bournemouth, the final home game of a rather poor season for Pep Guardiola’s men.
Can they give Kevin de Bruyne a decent send-off, or will the Cherries simply compound their misery after defeat in the FA Cup final at the weekend?
