Man City vs Arsenal odds, prediction and best bets as Premier League returns

After a 100-day gap, it's back.

And so is one-time City favourite Mikel Arteta, this time in the away team dug-out as Premier League football returns with a heavyweight showdown between champions Manchester City and Champions League chasing Arsenal.

With the absence of any supporters in the stadium no-one knows quite what to expect, especially punters planning a first wager since the restart. So we asked our City expert Simon Bajkowski for some specialist insight.

Win, lose or draw?

City win. It has been a long time since Guardiola's side were outplayed or outfought by Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta may be able to close the gulf between the teams but it would still be a surprise were Arsenal to pick anything up from the game.

That's why City are a slim 1/3 with thepools.com to win, but there are other more appealing prices out there.

Who's a good bet for first scorer?

If in doubt, say Aguero - at 23/10 first scorer and 8/15 to score at anytime . Raheem Sterling will be determined to get a goal having admitted he hasn't scored as many as he should. The suspension of football has extended the amount of time he hasn't scored for.

He is 15/4 to open the scoring and 19/20 anytime .

While Gabriel Jesus has been working extremely hard during lockdown and started at Real Madrid. He is a tempting 3/1 first goal and 3/4 anytime , but Aguero is still the go-to.

Who's on pens?

Pass! Probably Kevin De Bruyne (he stepped up and took one against Real Madrid), possibly Aguero (if his last miss was deemed a blip). Or maybe that's why the new assistant coach was brought in and he is going to take them! You can't get odds on that - but you can get 6/1 on De Bruyne to open the scoring which is appealing.

Will City keep a clean sheet?

City have been leakier than usual this season and Arsenal have not had a problem with either scoring or conceding in recent friendlies so both teams getting on the scoresheet would not be a surprise. Both Teams To Score is 8/13 but City to win and both teams to score is a stand-out 11/8 and the best bet of the day.

Will the absence of fans help or hinder?

It can only hinder the home team, can't it? How much is a different matter but unless fans made it difficult to play in the stadium it seems difficult to imagine how it could be better to play without them.
