Man City trophy parade organisers mock Liverpool with cheeky sign – ‘You won’t be walking alone’

Organisers of Manchester City’s trophy parade have poked fun at Premier League rivals Liverpool with a cheeky warning sign.

Streets in Manchester will be closed for a period on Monday for an open top bus parade to celebrate the achievements of Pep Guardiola’s squad this season.

City have already secured two trophies this season – the EFL Cup, thanks to a penalty shootout win over Chelsea in February, and the Premier League title, which was wrapped up with a victory at Brighton on the final day of the season.

They could become the first side to win the English domestic treble, if they beat Watford in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday afternoon, though Monday’s parade will go ahead regardless of that result.

In a message warning the city’s residents of the potential disruption, Transport for Greater Manchester couldn’t resist a dig at Liverpool, who racked up the third highest points total in Premier League history, but could only finish second to City.

Borrowing the title of the Reds’ club anthem, an electronic sign message read: “You’ll not be walking alone. MCFC trophy parade, Mon 20th May, leave your car at home for shorter journeys.”
