Man City trio cleared after Cristiano Ronaldo tests positive for coronavirus

Three Manchester City players have been tested again for coronavirus after Cristiano Ronaldo returned a positive test.

The Portuguese football federation confirmed in a statement that the Juventus star does not have symptoms and is "doing well" but has been released from the squad and will go into self-isolation as a consequence of the test.

Alongside Ronaldo in the squad are City trio Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo, with Cancelo - a former teammate of Ronaldo - pictured next to him less than a day ago at a team meal.

However, as the team prepares to face Sweden on Wednesday evening every remaining member of the playing group was re-tested and the federation have confirmed that there were no further positive tests.

A statement read : "Cristiano Ronaldo was released from the work of the national team after a positive test for COVID-19, so he will not face Sweden.

"The Portuguese international is doing well, without symptoms, and in isolation.

"Following the positive case, the remaining players underwent new tests this Tuesday morning, all with a negative result, and are available to Fernando Santos for training this afternoon, in the City of Football [training complex]."

Guardiola will hope to make more use of all three Portuguese stars when the players return to Manchester. Bernardo and Cancelo had barely featured owing to injuries they carried into the season from the last involvement on international duty, while new club record signing Dias has only played one match after signing from Benfica.
