Man City transfer round-up: Club 'identify leading striker target' and plot Arsenal ace swoop

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has reportedly identified his 'leading striker target' for 2022.

City tried to sign Tottenham Hotspur and England captain Harry Kane last summer but missed out on the striker as Daniel Levy refused to lower his demands for the forward.

And Guardiola may have admitted defeat in his efforts to sign Kane, with reports linking the club with a move for another centre-forward.

It comes following the news that the club is monitoring an Arsenal player who Mikel Arteta only signed last summer and a current star who could be set for a bumper new contract.

Here are all the latest Man City transfer rumours.

Have Your Say! Who do you want Man City to sign in January? Let us know in the comments here.

City star set for new deal

Joao Cancelo appears set to be rewarded for his fine form after lighting up the Etihad Stadium on a number of occasions already this season, it is reported.

Transfer don Fabrizio Romano reports that City want to tie Portuguese full-back down to a long-term deal after his impressive displays have made him a "key player" in Pep Guardiola's team.

Romano adds that the club plan to offer him a new deal in the coming months as they hope to extend his stay in Manchester.

Club 'identify leading striker target'

Manchester City have reportedly made Erling Haaland their 'leading striker target' for 2022.

According to The Telegraph [via Sports Illustrated ], City have made Haaland their top priority upfront when his reported £64m release clause kicks into his Borussia Dortmund contract next summer.

The club could still face stiff competition for his signature, however, with the Norwegian also being linked to the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid, among others.

Arsenal ace eyed

City are said to be monitoring the progress of Arsenal's Nuno Tavares.

The former Benfica full-back arrived at the Emirates Stadium only last summer for around £8m, and would probably now cost much more than that following a series of impressive displays for Mikel Arteta's side.

According to ESPN, the club is making "efforts to strengthen the left-back position" and have watched the Arsenal defender, although a January move is unlikely.
