Man City transfer round-up: Barcelona's Haaland push after missed Torres opportunity

Even with Manchester City excelling in the Premier League and Champions League, transfer speculation surrounding Pep Guardiola's side appears set to run and run.

The entire football world expects City to move for a striker in January or next summer, as they engaged in a drawn out and eventually unsuccessful pursuit of Harry Kane before the campaign started.

Talk of a move for Kane has fizzled out, although City continue to be mentioned as suitors for a number of European football's rising goalscoring stars, including Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland.

Here Mirror Football has rounded up your latest City transfer stories, including a fresh development on Haaland.

Barcelona make Haaland top target

Accoring to Marca , Barcelona are ready to make Haaland their top priority next summer.

Following the departure of Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, the Blaugrana have struggled to hit the back of the net on a regular basis and they sit in eighth place in the Spanish top flight.

Haaland, who is a natural in front of goal, would potentially provide an antidote to that problem.

Despite Barcelona's dire current financial plight, the club is said to be "determined to find a way to make it work." Haaland's agent Mino Raiola and Barcelona president Joan Laporta reportedly met in Turin to discuss possible transfer dealings.

Missed Ferran Torres opportunity

Barcelona have been strongly linked with a move for Manchester City's Ferran Torres in recent weeks, although a former scout for the Catalan club has claimed he recommended the forward to them years ago.

Speaking to Esport 3 (h/t CCMA via Sport Witness ), Josep Moratalla said he spotted Torres' talent from a young age and made a plea to Barcelona to bring him in.

"I saw him with the Spanish national team, and I made a very favourable report," he said. "(It was) long before Manchester City became interested in him and at a very low price: he was not even €7 million. There has always been a problem: closing operations."

Porro to join Sporting CP permanently

According to A Bola (h/t Sport Witness ), Manchester City's Pedro Perro is set to join Sporting CP on a permanent basis.

The full-back is currently on loan in Lisbon and has impressed for the Portuguese champions since joining in 2020.

In the report it's said he will eventually sign for Sporting for a fee of €8.5 million (£7.25 million) and once that contract is signed he will have a release clause in his deal for €45 million (£38.36 million).

Given the performances being turned in by the 22-year-old, Sporting are said to be hopeful of making a significant profit on the youngster in the future.

Porro and City will come face to face in the Champions League next year too, with the two clubs drawing each other in the last 16.
