Man City transfer-linked Lionel Messi 'chooses to join Paris Saint-Germain' after Barcelona exit

Lionel Messi has reportedly chosen to join Paris Saint-Germain following the shock announcement that he would not be signing a new deal at Barcelona.

Barcelona released a statement on Thursday saying that they were unable to tie Messi down to a new deal due to La Liga regulations.

This news opened the door for other top European clubs to make their move, with Man City and PSG both heavily linked after already showing their interest after Messi announced he wished to leave the Catalan club last year.

In a news conference on Friday, Guardiola said that the Premier League champions had no plans to sign Messi after already signing Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for a British record £100m.

Bookmakers had made PSG favourites to land Messi ahead of Man City, with both clubs seen as the most likely to be able to afford the Argentine superstar's wages.

Talks of a PSG move increased earlier this week after he was pictured with a number of their players including Neymar and international teammate Angel Di Maria.

It has now been reported by French media, that Messi has made a decision to join PSG this summer.

Paris-based journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi claims that Messi has chosen to join the French giants on a two year deal with an option for a third.

It's said that the French giants hope to wrap up the signing over the weekend and is set to meet with the Barcelona legend's father Jorge in the 'next few hours'.

While it would prevent the opportunity to see Messi in the Premier League, it would see him form a formidable attacking trio alongside Kylian Mbappe and former Barcelona teammate Neymar.
