Man City told which Liverpool FC signing would be a disaster in the Premier League title race

Man City have been told that Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly signing for Liverpool would be a disaster for them in the Premier League title race.

Despite last season's unprecedented treble triumph, Pep Guardiola is looking to reinforce his squad this summer to ensure standards don't slip and that City retain their Premier League crown for a second time.

Atletico Madrid defensive-midfielder Rodri appears close to making the switch to the Etihad, as City look to add competition, cover and a long-term successor to Fernandinho in the squad.

City are also chasing a new centre-back to fill the void left by departing captain Vincent Kompany.

The Blues have been heavily linked with Leicester and England star Harry Maguire but recent reports have touted Senegal international Koulibaly.

Liverpool have also been linked with the commanding centre-back as they gun to win their first ever Premier League title following their sixth Champions League victory.

If they were to sign Koulibaly he would partner PFA Player of the Year Virgil van Dijk, who has been incredible at the back ever since his £75m switch to Anfield.

Napoli's former sporting director, Carlo Jacomuzzi, claims it will be a 'disaster' for City and every other English team if Liverpool got their hands on the 28-year-old.

“Man City? If Guardiola makes a decision, they buy," Jacomuzzi told Radio Kiss Kiss .

"Napoli want €130m? In England, there are four teams who can pay that amount.

“Liverpool? They’ve won so much [financially] from the Champions League, from the [prize] money from the federation and their sponsors that they can buy two Koulibalys.

“It would be a disaster for the others, having to find a way to go through that defence.”
