Man City told what will happen if they complete Erling Haaland transfer deal

Former West Ham and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie believes Manchester City would "win everything" if they are to sign Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

The striker, who has struck 19 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund so far this season, is attracting interest from a plethora of big-name clubs from across Europe — including City, who remain keen to source a long-term replacement for Sergio Aguero.

Haaland, who joined Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg a little more than two years ago, has gone from strength-to-strength in Germany and is now frequently described as the most exciting and promising player in the world, with his statistics nothing short of sensational for a player who is still only 21.

The striker has a release clause worth €75million (£62.6m) within his contract that is set to become active this summer, meaning an almighty battle is set to engulf in pursuit of his signature, with City, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain amongst those interested in his services.

But if City, who are still on the hunt for a striker, win the race for his services, McAvennie believes it would be enough to see them dominate both English and European football.

"It's game over if Man City get Haaland, they will win everything," McAvennie told Football Insider. "I'm a big fan of his and he has done so well in that Dortmund side.

"He has been tremendous in Europe but people will say the Premier League is a different kettle of fish.

"I would fully expect Haaland to thrive in the Premier League, especially in that Man City team. Some big-name strikers can't do it, Fernando Torres was rubbish at Chelsea, for example.

"I don’t see that happening with Haaland, he's too good. City are a team who can afford him and he will want to sign.

"He's just brilliant, he really is. I think it would be great to see him playing over here."

Despite interest in Haaland being rife at this moment in time, Dortmund chief executive officer Hans-Joachim Watzke, speaking last week, confirmed that he would not be sold in this month's transfer window, but admitted that it would be hard for the German club to keep hold of him this summer.

He said: "Haaland will not leave in January. No way. Who accepts to sell top a European striker during the winter break when they don't have to?

"Next year? Of course, it will be difficult to keep him. Nevertheless we want to and we'll try."
