Man City told Tottenham 'regret' not swapping Harry Kane for Bernardo Silva

Manchester City have been told that Tottenham 'regret' not swapping Harry Kane for Bernardo Silva and cash.

Either side of his Euro 2020 heroics, the England captain was heavily linked with a dream switch to the champions.

Kane was effectively priced out of that move, though, amid suggestions that Daniel Levy and Tottenham wanted a staggering £120million-plus for his prolific goalscoring services. City offered Bernardo, and other players, in part exchange for the striker.

The three-time Golden Boot winner has only netted once in the Premier League this season.

By contrast, fleet-footed Portuguese forward Bernardo - whose own future came under question before the campaign started - has been one of the stand-out players in the entire division this term and was on target twice during the 3-1 win at Watford on Saturday afternoon.

Had things turned out a little differently, the 27-year-old might have been turning out for Tottenham.

Speaking on radio station talkSPORT, pundit and former Chelsea man Tony Cascarino said: "If you can get Bernardo Silva in a deal and you lose [Harry] Kane... you get a bit of money. They will pay money and you get Bernardo Silva.

"He might not want to leave City and he might not want to go [to Tottenham]. That was, to me, a great option.

"We had this conversation. If you could get Bernardo Silva in the deal. You've lost [Christian] Eriksen and you've not really had a player to replace him of the quality of someone like Bernardo Silva.

"It wasn't certain that he would stay at City. But from the start of the season he's been fantastic."
