Man City told Pep Guardiola thinks squad 'is good enough to win the Champions League'

Sven-Goran Eriksson says Manchester City's lack of transfer activity suggests Pep Guardiola is confident in his squad's ability to challenge for major trophies.

City have added three players to their first-team in this transfer window, with Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake and Ferran Torres all joining.

It has meant a quiet deadline day, with most of the focus being on whether Eric Garcia will stay at the club after interest from Barcelona.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, former England manager Eriksson said their lack of transfer activity suggests Guardiola is confident in his squad.

Yet he warned that recent results show City and Liverpool will not be as far ahead of the chasing pack as they were last season.

He said: "That means that the manager thinks the team is good enough to win the Champions League and the Premier League.

"I don’t think Guardiola will be happy not winning a big trophy - that’s why he’s there.

"He’s confident in the team he has, but I think if you look at the competition in the league today, teams start to know how to play better against City, Liverpool, they study how to get in behind them.

"Liverpool, they play with a back-line that’s very high and if you look at recent games, Liverpool yesterday, how Villa got in behind them.

"It’s more difficult for City and Liverpool to be that good, winning the league with 10 points, I don’t think that will happen this season.

"I think it’ll be more competitive and that’s good for football.”
