Man City told Bernardo Silva 'carried' them during Kevin De Bruyne absence

Bernardo Silva 'carried' Manchester City during Kevin De Bruyne's absence, according to fans' favourite Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Despite the addition of Jack Grealish in the summer, Bernardo has managed to keep his place more often than not in Pep Guardiola's side. The Portugual international has scored 10 goals in 40 appearances this season.

According to Wright-Phillips, the 27-year-old has excelled during De Bruyne's absence this season. Speaking to William Hill, he explained: "Bernardo Silva has impressed me attacking-wise this season.

"Everyone knows his capabilities and how much he runs and how well he’s done. But just the goals he’s scored, especially at the start of the season when he had that flurry of goals, the way he was playing and the way he has been playing, the amount of ground he covers.

"Wherever the manager puts him you get the same end result from him. He’s carried the team at times, when Kevin De Bruyne was injured he stepped up and he was the main man. It takes a lot to fill a player like Kevin De Bruyne’s boots. It’s not an easy task and he just slid in there and did it like it was his everyday job."

Bernardo's performances have helped propel City to the top of the Premier League table. They are, however, just one point above Liverpool with the two teams set to clash on Sunday.
