Man City to trigger Douglas Luiz buy-back clause and more transfer rumours

Manchester City are set to trigger the buy-back clause in Douglas Luiz's contract at Aston Villa - according to reports.

The Brazilian was highly regarded by Pep Guardiola but didn't make a single first-team appearance for the Blues as they struggled to gain a work permit.

Luiz was loaned to City Football Group side Girona for two years before completing a permanent exit from the club last year, signing permanently for Aston Villa following their promotion to the Premier League.

The 22-year-old has been a regular in Dean Smith's side, missing only two league games this season, scoring three goals and registering two assists.

Following City's exit from the Champions League at the hands of Lyon, Globo Esporte claim the club are working to activate the buy-back clause in Luiz's contract to bring the midfielder back to the Etihad Stadium.

Luiz would cost £25million if City were to activate the clause.

MEN Sport understand Luiz is not on the club's list of summer targets this summer.

Elsewhere, Chelsea are reportedly keen to sign John Stones this summer.

Frank Lampard is believed to be unhappy with his current options in defence and has lined up the England international as the ideal recruit.

The Daily Mirror believe the London side want to sign Stones as well as Brighton captain Lewis Dunk.

It adds Chelsea are currently lining up a loan bid for the former Everton defender who has fallen out of favour under Guardiola.
