Man City 'to rival Tottenham Hotspur for France international midfielder'

Manchester City will look to pip Tottenham Hostpur to the singing of Tanguy Ndombele this summer, according to reports.

The Lyon midfielder impressed against the Blues in the Champions League group stage last season and has been tipped as a potential successor to Fernandinho at the base of City's midfield.

Fernandinho, 34, made 42 appearances for City last season but manager Pep Guardiola is said to be keen to source a replacement after missing out to Barcelona in the race for Frenkie de Jong's signature in January.

Spurs are said to be considering a club-record, £50 million bid for France international Ndombele this summer along with the offer of a £200,000-per-week contract.

But Football Insider claim that City remain interested in the 22-year-old and could win the race for his signature with a £70 million offer.

Meanwhile, the Blues are said to have been put off by Leicester's £90 million price tag for Harry Maguire this summer.

City are in the market for a new centre-back following the departure of captain Vincent Kompany at the end of last summer, while uncertainty remains over the future of Nicolas Otamendi.

Maguire is said to head Guardiola's wishlist but the Daily Mail claim that the Foxes' valuation of Maguire has put a hold on developments, with Manchester United also interested.
