Man City to rival PSG for Porto star Alex Telles and more transfer rumours

Manchester City have emerged as a challenger to Paris Saint-Germain for the signing of Porto defender Alex Telles, according to reports.

After a disappointing Premier League campaign in which City haven't put up much of a fight in the defence of their title, Pep Guardiola may look to reinvigorate his squad this summer.

Many of City's troubles this season have stemmed from the defence and while the centre-back position has been the main problem area, left-back has also been an issue.

The Blues opted against splashing big money to sign a new left-back last summer due to the emergence of Aleks Zinchenko and the willingness to give Benjamin Mendy another opportunity. So instead Angelino was brought back to the club in a cut-price deal.

However, Mendy and Zinchenko have struggled with injury throughout the season and Angelino was shipped out on loan to RB Leipzig after making just 12 appearances.

Reports earlier this week suggested that City would reignite their interest in Leicester City's Ben Chilwell to alleviate the problem but, according to Correio de Manha, via SportWitness, they will look to sign Porto's Telles.

The 27-year-old is a talented, goal scoring full-back who has been linked with a big move for years but one has surprisingly never come to fruition.

However, with just a year remaining on his contract it seems Telles is finally set to leave Portugal. He would suit Guardiola's team but, it's claimed, PSG are the front runners as they're willing to pay Porto's asking price, though City reportedly still have a chance.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have enquired about the possibility of signing Ismael Bennacer from AC Milan, according to reports.

City have also been linked with a move for the young midfielder but  Footmercato  suggest it is Real Madrid who are most likely to make a move.
