Man City to learn CAS appeal on Champions League ban decision on Monday morning

The Court of Arbitration of Sport have confirmed that they will announce their decision on Manchester City's appeal against a ban from Champions League football on Monday.

UEFA released the bombshell news in Ferbuary that City were to be banned from all European competitions two years after being found guilty of 'serious breaches' of Financial Fair Play.

The ban was subject to an appeal which City immediately filed and the club have expressed their confidence from the outset that a fair hearing would clear their name.

Their case was heard by CAS over three days in June and after weeks of deliberating, CAS have now confirmed in a statement that their decision will be announced on Monday, July 13, at 9:30am.

The statement read: "The Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) will announce the decision taken in the arbitration procedure between Manchester City Football Club and the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) on Monday, July 13 2020.

"A media release will be published on the CAS website (www.tas-cas.org) at 10:30am [Swiss time]."

If upheld, City could find themselves without Champions League football to play for two years but Pep Guardiola is confident that that won't happen.

"The intention is every season to play in the Champions League and do as best as possible," he said.

"It’s not about what's going to happen on Monday. On Monday we'll know. I’m so confident - because I know, I am here and I saw the arguments of the club - that next season we will be there but we have to wait. After [the decision], I will give my opinion and the club will give a statement."

Regardless of the decision, City still have this year's Champions League campaign to complete and will finally face Real Madrid in their Last-16 second leg at the Etihad on Saturday, August 7.
