Joao Cancelo is set to complete a move to Manchester City, with Danilo heading to Juventus in part exchange.

The Portugal international has travelled to Manchester to complete the formalities of his move to the Premier League champions after being on Pep Guardiola’s radar all summer.

City’s manager was eager to strengthen his options at right back – but finding a buyer for Danilo was key to bringing in Cancelo.

Guardiola was adamant he wouldn’t go into the new season with three right backs – meaning the move for Cancelo had stalled.

But Juve’s willingness to take the Brazil international, as well as £27.4m, paved the way for the 25-year-old to head to the Etihad.

City handed Kyle Walker a new long-term deal this summer, but always intended to provide him with serious competition for the new campaign.

Guardiola has already strengthened his domestic treble winners with the club record £62m signing of Rodri and left back Angelino.

He has also been on the lookout for extra cover in the centre of defence – targeting Harry Maguire before the England defender joined United in an £80m deal on Monday.

Vincent Kompany’s departure at the end of last season has weakened City at the back, while Nicolas Otamendi’s future has also been the subject of uncertainty.

But going in the final week of the window, City were still to receive any bids for the Argentine – and Guardiola is also confident Fernandinho will be able to step in at centre back if he fails to bring someone in before Thursday’s deadline.
