Man City tipped to ruin Chelsea's summer transfer plans by hijacking £80m move

Chelsea could miss out on the signing of Ben Chilwell amid reports that Manchester City are set to renew their interest in the Leicester City full-back.

Pep Guardiola’s side were heavily linked with the England international ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, but the Spanish boss eventually opted to keep faith with Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

However, the website One Football now claims City are set to return with a big money offer ahead of the 2020-21 season, with Guardiola concerned over Mendy’s long-term suitability at left-back.

Chelsea: The season so far

City are now 9/5 to secure a deal to take Chilwell to the Etihad Stadium, despite Frank Lampard’s side remaining confident they can stay in the race to sign the 23-year old.

The Daily Mail claims Chelsea are prepared to fork out up to £80million to sign Chilwell, putting pressure on Guardiola to at least match their offer.

But with Brendan Rodgers’ side under no pressure to sell, the Foxes could hold out for a higher fee than the £80million they received from Manchester United for Harry Maguire less than a year ago.

Chelsea hope a quick move could give them the advantage, but the tide does look to be turning in favour of City, despite concerns over FFP scrutiny on their transfer spending.
