Man City thrilled as Ederson becomes fifth star to agree new contract this year

Manchester City have added Ederson to the list of stars they have tied down to new contracts in 2021.

The goalkeeper, who signed from Benfica in 2017 and immediately became first-choice at the club, has extended his stay in Manchester until 2026. Having won the Golden Glove for the last two years as well as three Premier League titles with the team, the dynamic Brazilian is planning on more success with the club.

Ederson follows in the footsteps of Kevin De Bruyne, Fernandinho, John Stones and Ruben Dias in signing contract extensions in the calendar year; Liam Delap and Cole Palmer are among the first team prospects to have also penned lengthy deals.

City are delighted to have been able to agree a new deal with Ederson as they look to challenge again in all competitions, as sporting director Txiki Begiristain explained.

“Ederson is one of the best goalkeepers in the world," he said.

“He is perfectly suited to our philosophy here at Manchester City and his ability with the ball at his feet makes him fundamental to our style of play.

“Since we signed him, he has added a new dimension to our game and has revolutionised goalkeeping in the Premier League in the process. His performances over the last four years have been nothing short of exceptional and there is no doubt he will continue to be a key player for us.

“We are thrilled he has committed his future to the club.”
