Man City team to face Lyon includes Fernandinho and Rodri

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has named both Rodri and Fernandinho in his midfield to face Lyon in the Champions League.

Joao Cancelo retains his place at left-back after an impressive display during the win against Real Madrid with Benjamin Mendy forced to settle for a place on the bench despite coming back from suspension. Eric Garcia returns to the starting line-up to partner Aymeric Laporte in defence with Fernandinho potentially moving up into midfield.

He could partner Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan with Kevin De Bruyne also named in the starting XI leading to questions over which formation Guardiola will opt to set his side up in.

Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus retain their places in the side with Phil Foden dropping to the bench. Bernardo Silva, David Silva and Riyad Mahrez are also named among the substitutes.

It remains to be seen where Fernandinho fits into the team. City could use a back three of Laporte, Fernandinho and Garcia to allow Kyle Walker to push higher up the field. De Bruyne could sit behind a forward two of Jesus and Sterling.

Manchester City team to face Lyon: Ederson; Walker, Garcia, Laporte, Cancelo; Fernandinho, Rodri, Gundogan; Sterling, De Bruyne, Jesus.
