Man City supporters send Pep Guardiola key team selection message ahead of Fulham trip

Manchester City supporters believe Oleksandr Zinchenko should retain his berth at left-back for Manchester City's trip to Fulham on Saturday - even if Benjamin Mendy is fully fit.

The Ukraine international impressed in the position before the international break, playing 90 minutes in the Blues' last four Premier League outings.

Zinchenko provided two assists in the first of those games - the 6-0 home win against Chelsea - and provided another in the 7-0 Champions League win against Schalke on March 12.

City's £50 million left-back Benjamin Mendy has trained with Pep Guardiola's first-team squad this week ahead of the return of the Premier League, but City fans polled by M.E.N. Sport feel the France international, 24, is not a shoo-in to the City side should he be ready for the trip to Craven Cottage.

Former Man City defender slams Liverpool FC's Jordan Henderson as "ugly and disrespectful"

Mendy's last City outing came in the 3-1 win against Manchester United in November, with the former Monaco man since hampered by a second knee injury in as many seasons.

Fabian Delph, Zinchenko and Aymeric Laporte have deputised at left-back in his absence and Zinchenko has proven most adept to the role.

76% of 851 City supporters felt Zinchenko should start against Fulham on Saturday as the Blues look to make up the two-point gap to league-leaders Liverpool. 20% believed Mendy was the man for the job, with 3% and 1% of the votes for Laporte and Delph respectively.

Liverpool, over whom City have a game in hand, went top of the table with a win at Fulham ahead of the international break but City boss Guardiola prefers the pressure that comes with leading the way to playing catch-up.

“I prefer to be top of the league than behind because it’s in our hands,” he said after the Blues' 3-1 win against Watford.

“But I feel we will drop points, as few as possible, and try to keep the distance with Liverpool until the last few fixtures and have a chance in the last few fixtures.”
