Man City supporters send Leroy Sane message ahead of Premier League return

Leroy Sané deserves a starting berth for Manchester City's Premier League game against Fulham on Saturday, according to City fans polled by the M.E.N.

The 23-year-old sat on the bench for the Blues' 1-0 win at Bournemouth and was a 64th-minute substitute in the 3-1 home win against Watford ahead of the international break.

Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva have been Pep Guardiola's wingers of choice in recent weeks but Sané, last season's PFA Young Player of the Year, caught the eye with his showings for Germany in their Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Sané scored in Die Mannschaft's 3-2 win against the Netherlands on Sunday night to extend his goalscoring run at international level to three goals in his last four outings.

City are two points adrift of Premier League-leaders Liverpool, with a game in hand over Jurgen Klopp's side, and have eight fixtures remaining to retain the league title for the first time in the club's history.

Sané has recorded 14 goals and 17 assists in 38 City appearances this season and 95% of a 604-strong sample of supporters felt he should be given an opportunity from the outset at Craven Cottage.

The £37 million signing from Schalke in the summer of 2016 is in negotiations with the club over a new contract at the Etihad after Guardiola branded the wide-man the best in the business.

"Leroy, I think, is the best player in the world [playing] wide and making runs in behind and these kind of actions," Guardiola said after Sané fired in a free-kick against his former club Schalke in the first-leg of City's Champions League last-16.

“We prefer to use him where he is strong. His strength, I believe, is wider – one against one. There I think he is an incredible player.”
