Man City suffer key blow ahead of Leeds United fixture

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has tested positive for coronavirus and will now enter a 10-day isolation period, which may see him ruled out of involvement against Leeds United on October 3.

City announced the positive result on Monday morning, ruling the former Borussia Dortmund out of their Premier League game against Wolves.

Gundogan will also be forced to miss this week's Carabao Cup match against Bournemouth and next weekend match against Leicester City at the Etihad.

The Germany international will return to training after his isolation period but may also miss the clash against Leeds on October 3, as he will have to regain fitness.

This represents the latest coronavirus blow for Pep Guardiola's side, with Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte both returning positive tests two weeks ago.

A statement from City read: "Manchester City FC can confirm that Ilkay Gundogan has tested positive for COVID-19.

"Ilkay is now observing a 10-day period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine. Everyone at the Club wishes Ilkay a speedy recovery."
