Man City suffer injury blow with Pep Guardiola's squad missing two key stars ahead of Burnley clash

Manchester City suffered an injury blow ahead of today’s crunch with Burnley as Fernandinho failed to make the matchday squad.

The Brazil midfielder suffered a knee injury which forced him off in the 2-0 win at Manchester United on Wednesday night.

Pep Guardiola said on Friday that his main midfield anchor would face a late fitness test – and it looks like he has failed it.

Kevin De Bruyne was also missing, as expected, after his hamstring injury last week, while Benjamin Mendy was the only other notable absence from the party which was seen getting off the team bus at Turf Moor.

That means Aleks Zinchenko is likely to remain at left back, although Guardiola may be tempted to play Aymeric Laporte in the role, to combat Burnley’s aerial threat.

Vincent Kompany was present, which is a huge plus – there is always a fear that he cannot make two games a week, and Guardiola uses him sparingly these days, but he could be crucial in combatting Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood.
