Man City striker Sergio Aguero equals Thierry Henry's Arsenal scoring record with goal against Burnley

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has equalled a long-standing scoring record held only by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry with his crucial goal against Burnley.

City needed a victory at Turf Moor to move back to the top of the Premier League, with anything less than all three points handing a massive advantage to Liverpool - who destroyed Huddersfield Town 5-0 on Friday night.

Pep Guardiola's side had endured a frustrating first half with Burney's resolute defence proving hard to unlock and at the start of the second-half a clear City penalty was denied when the ball hit the arm of Ashley Barnes.

However, City began to dominate as the second half wore in with the game basically becoming a continuous goalmouth scramble in the Burnley box and eventually Aguero scored the opener.

It was a scrappy one that had to goal-line technology but City weren't complaining and the goal could prove massive for the title race as City held on to grind out a 1-0 win and overtake Liverpool once again at the top.

It also had added significance for Aguero who equalled a record that no one else has achieved since 2006.

The Argentine became only the second player in Premier League history to score 20+ goals in five consecutive seasons, with the only other being Arsenal's all time top goal scorer Thierry Henry, who managed it between 2001/02 and 2005/06.
