Man City striker Gabriel Jesus gets international ban for Brazil outburst in Copa America final

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus has been banned from international football for two months following his actions in the Copa America final with Brazil last month.

Jesus had scored and assisted for Brazil to put his country in control in the final over Peru, but the City striker then received a second booking in the second half.

Jesus was clearly unhappy with the decision, arguing the sending off with the referee and pushing a VAR monitor as he was taken down the tunnel.

TV images then showed Jesus in tears at the incident outside his dressing room, but the striker soon cheered up as his teammates held on to win the Copa America title in front of their own fans.

However, South America governing body CONMEBOL have charged Jesus for "behaving in an offensive, insulting or defamatory manner of any kind." He was fined $30,000 and will not be available for selection for Brazil for two months.

That means the striker will miss Brazil's friendlies against Colombia and Peru.

It's a blow for Jesus, who had found form for his country over the summer with national hero Neymar injured.

The 22-year-old scored twice and assisted twice during the tournament, making his record eight goals and two assists in 13 caps since the 2018 World Cup.

However, Pep Guardiola now knows he should have a fully fit striker in Jesus for the trip to Norwich following the September international break.

Jesus has seven days to appeal CONMEBOL's decision.
