Man City starting XI vs Newcastle includes John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi

Pep Guardiola has stayed true to his word and recalled John Stones to his Manchester City starting line-up for tonight's clash with Newcastle.

Stones has not played for City since March, when he started the Carabao Cup final win over Aston Villa and the FA Cup win at Sheffield Wednesday three days later.

He suffered a small injury when City returned to training following the lockdown, which has prevented him being match fit until now, and Guardiola used his pre-match press conference to confirm the England defender would start.

Stones partners Nicolas Otamendi in defence, with Aymeric Laporte and Eric Garcia dropping to the bench. Joao Cancelo and Aleks Zinchenko continue at full-back.

In midfield, Kevin De Bruyne returns to partner David Silva, with Rodri in holding midfield.

Phil Foden starts on the wing, opposite Riyad Mahrez, with Gabriel Jesus continuing up front.

Kyle Walker returns to the bench after missing the Southampton game for fitness reasons, but Benjamin Mendy again misses out. Youngster Tommy Doyle could come off the bench.

Man City starting XI vs Newcastle: Ederson, Cancelo, Otamendi, Stones, Zinchenko, Rodrigo, De Bruyne, D Silva (C), Mahrez, Jesus, Foden.

Substitutes: Bravo, Walker, Sterling, Gundogan, Laporte, Bernardo , Fernandinho, Garcia, Doyle.
