Man City starting XI to face Wolves in Premier League includes Nathan Ake and John Stones

Pep Guardiola has handed a Manchester City debut to summer signing Nathan Ake tonight.

City take on Wolves at Molineux for their opening fixture of the new Premier League season without key players Ilkay Gundogan, Aymeric Laporte and Sergio Aguero.

Gundogan is in self-isolation following a positive Covid-19 test, while Laporte is not fit after his own period of isolation. Aguero is still recovering from knee surgery.

In his pre-match press conference on Friday, Guardiola said: "Riyad came back three or four days ago and today was the first day that Aymeric Laporte came back to us. I think Riyad will be available, Laporte not yet."

That means Guardiola has given Ake a first appearance for City at the back, with John Stones partnering him. Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy are the full-backs.

In midfield, new captain Fernandinho starts in defensive midfield, with Kevin de Bruyne and Rodri ahead of him.

The attack consists of Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus, with second new signing Ferran Torres among the substitutes.

Also on the bench, goalkeeper Zack Steffen makes his first matchday squad following a loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf last season, while there are also calls for youngsters Tommy Doyle, Adrian Bernabe and Liam Delap.

It's a debut call up to the senior matchday squad for Delap, who has been prolific for the under-18s last season and at the start of the new campaign.

Man City starting XI vs Wolves: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Ake, Mendy; Rodri, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Foden, Jesus, Sterling

Substitutes: Steffen, Torres, Mahrez, Otamendi, Delap, Doyle, Bernabe
